Several years ago, we spent the 4th of July weekend in a cabin in Big Sur.
Halfway between Gorda and Lucía, the cabin sat by itself facing the Pacific, perched on the slopes of the Santa Lucía Mountains next to a redwood grove.
Our only companions those days were a couple of horses. In the mornings, they would hang out in their corral by our outdoors table while we had breakfast. During the day, they would roam free around the cabin.
The cabin was surrounded by potted succulents of different types, sizes and colors.
Around the cabin were also different types of flowers - some planted, some native - as well as the redwood sorrel.
In the mornings, we would consistently wake up with quite dense fog. As the sun rose, the fog dissappeared revealing the redwoods around us.
We were told we might be able to see whales' spouts as they migrate, but we didn't. We did find ourselves admiring the ever changing beauty of the Pacific Ocean.
